For a monumental narcissist it's par for the course! His Pygmalion-like relationship to Laura reinforces his claim to ownership of her. He cannot physically possess her due to impotence or perhaps being gay, but he wants to do so. He's not interested in what she might desire, as she is only there to be his creation and his "Echo" to conflate Pygmalion with the myth of Narcissus. He considers that he owns her like the objets d'art of his in her apartment that he wants returned. That's what her death means to him, especially as she deserved it given her rejection of him, thus shattering his ilusion of possession. Where's Waldo? It's ALL Waldo, dealing from his deck of lies.
Brilliant!!! In a film that is supposed to be about Laura, Waldo Lydecker makes it all about himself. How clever is that ?

Brilliantly said.
Exactly. Brilliant performance.
“I love you, Laura. Please let me show my affection via both barrels of this shotgun”
Right!
Love the film and Webb’s performance. He reminds me a little of the George Sanders character in” “ All about Eve”. A great film with great dialogue.
That's what I thought as well!
